WISE organised a two-day training programme on ‘Rooftop Solar Power Plant Design, Engineering and Economics (with hands-on software training)’ in the WISE Training Hall, Pune, on 19–20 April 2016. The objective of the programme was to enhance technical knowledge on design and engineering of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, provide an understanding of current practices, and improve expertise on evolving new technologies; offer expertise on installation procedures and safety parameters; and discuss the economics of solar PV projects for financial viability. The programme deliberated on the global and Indian PV scenario, and different aspects of rooftop PV system such as design, installation, grid integration, stand-alone practices, electrical standards, metering arrangements, remote monitoring, etc. In addition, the economic analysis and business models of grid-connected rooftop PV projects, and state level policies and regulations were discussed during the various sessions. The participants were also given hands-on training on PV Syst software for PV power plant designing. The programme was well attended by participants comprising solar entrepreneurs, investors, consultants, students, etc. Apart from the WISE faculty, prominent speakers at the programme included Dr Sudhir Kumar, Chief Executive, Green Energy Solutions, Pune; and Arvind Karandikar, Managing Director, Nexus Energy Tech Pvt.
