WORKSHOP ON MODEL RE-BASED MICROGRID PROJECTS IN REMOTE AREAS HELD
WISE organised a three-day residential training programme on ‘Model RE-based Microgrid Power Projects in Remote Areas’ at the Indian Institute of Bank Management, Guwahati from 16–18 September 2014. The training programme is the second in a series of two programmes that are being organised under the project ‘Scaling up Deployment of RE Technology for Promoting Innovative Business Models’ jointly supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and World Bank. The first training programme in this series was conducted in Pune on 19–21 March 2014.
The different sessions at the workshop were dedicated to discussions on the various RE based microgrid technologies available presently and the costs involved, different aspects of preparation of detailed project report computation of cost generation, revenue and viability gap funding, and the lender’s and developer’s roles in financing of microgrids. Operational experiences of different microgrid projects were also discussed. A site visit was arranged to a 100 kw solar PV power plant installed at the National Institute of Rural Development, Guwahati.
Apart from the WISE faculty, prominent speakers at the programme included Dr S P Gon Chaudhuri, Director, West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Limited and Member, Planning Board, Govt. of Tripura; Shio Shankar Singh, Chairman, Assam Gramin Vikas Bank; and Suraj Singh, Scientific Officer, Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency. A high-level panel discussion which was chaired by Dr D R Das was another highlight of the workshop. Panelists included Dr Sriparna B Baruah, Faculty & Head, Centre for Industrial Extension and Consultancy Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship; and M K Chaudhuri, Additional Director, Assam Energy Development Agency.
The participants congratulated WISE for organising a training programme on renewable energy in Guwahati. They also requested to conduct more such programmes in the north east region which has enormous untapped RE potential.
