The villages Retyakheda and Sunita are situated in the vicinity of the Melghat tiger forest reserve area in Maharashtra. These villages are situated far away from the electrical grid of MSEDCL.
Due to the dense forest and designated tiger forest reserve area, the villages lack access to electricity as the grid is not extended to these villages. Retyakheda and Sunita have around 121 and 154 households respectively, and community Anganwadi and school.
To help these villages, WISE supported MEDA in the preparation of DPR and BID documents for the development of a solar-based power generation system backed by lithium-iron battery storage. The generated power is to be supplied to each household through the LT power distribution system connecting each household through a service connection.
Both projects have been commissioned with financial support from the state government.
