WISE organized the second edition of Wind India titled ‘Wind India 2008’ from 25th to 26th November 2008 at Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai. The success enjoyed by the first edition, ‘Wind India 2006’, resulted in a spurt of international participants with senior level representatives from over 15 Danish and European majors attending the conference cum exhibition.
The chief guest, Dr. Pramod Deo, Chairman, CERC, inaugurated the conference in the presence of industry stalwarts like Dr. Andrew Garrad, CEO and Founder, Garrad Hassan Group, UK; Hans Jorgen Koch, Deputy State Secretary, Danish Energy Agency, Denmark; Chetan Mehra, MD, Weizmann Limited, Mumbai; Ramesh Kymal, Chairman, Organizing Committee and MD, Vestas Wind Technology Pvt. Ltd., Chennai; and G M Pillai, Founder Director General, WISE.
WISE continued the practice of awards presentation from its first edition aimed at recognizing and encouraging players from the best performing sectors in 11 different categories. There were over 40 speakers representing national and international interests at the conference including senior officials from MNRE, Government of India, policy makers, regulators and senior academicians. More than 400 delegates and over 55 exhibitors including wind turbine manufacturers, equipment suppliers, service providers, investors, financiers, technology consultants, regulators and media were present at the conference.
The conference included side events such as the Indo-Danish Business Meet organized by the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET), Chennai, and MNRE, Government of India. The Business Meet focused on mutual cooperation for developing CDM and business opportunities and wind forecasting in India. Another topical side event was “Testing and Certification of Wind Turbines in India’ also organized by C-WET.
The conference generated significant international attention, helping the Indian wind sector to forge new business relations and promote local manufacturing.
