Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has claimed to have commissioned the first ever wind-solar hybrid power generation project in India. In an official statement, Adani Green has announced that its subsidiary Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer One Limited (AHEJOL) has commissioned a 390 MW wind-solar hybrid power plant in Rajasthan. Wind Solar Hybrid projects are widely expected to increase as the share of renewable energy in the power mix goes up, besides larger energy storage to ensure predictable supplies. The project, when it was awarded, was expected to have 360 MW of solar and 100 MW of wind energy.
The company said that the hybrid power plant harnesses the full potential of renewable energy by resolving the intermittency of the generation and provides a more reliable solution to meet the rising power demand. Vneet S. Jaain, MD & CEO, Adani Green, stated, “Wind-Solar Hybrid energy is an important aspect of our business strategy which aims to meet India’s growing need for green energy.”
He further added, “We are extremely proud of the unrelenting effort our team has put in to deliver India’s first wind-solar hybrid plant. This project is a part of the first construction facility by international banks in Adani Green. It is commendable that the project was successfully executed amidst the uncertainties imposed by the global pandemic.”
According to the official statement of Adani Greens, the new plant has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) with tariff at Rs. 2.69 per kWh. This implies that the rates are well below the Average Power Procurement Cost (APPC) at national level .
According to Adani Green, its Energy Network Operation Centre (ENOC) has helped the Group in achieving strong operational performance of the entire renewables portfolio in India. The ENOC platform will also be instrumental in delivering industry-leading performance through this newly commissioned wind-solar hybrid power plant, the company held.
With the successful commissioning of the Jaisalmer plant, Adani Green now has an operational capacity of 5.8 GW and a total renewable portfolio of 20.4 GW, on track to meet the company’s vision of 45 GW capacity by 2030. The firm has guided for about 3 GW of capacity additions annually between now and 2025-26.
