State aims to soon cover urban power needs with renewable energy, says Chief Secretary

Gujarat is aiming to cover all electricity requirements of its urban areas with renewable energy within the next two-three years, said Chief Secretary Raj Kumar while addressing the Infrastructure Investors Dialogue organised at GIFT City in Gandhinagar as part of India’s presidency of G20.

The opening of the dialogue was also attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Hasmukh Adhia, chief advisor to the CM.

During his speech on the occasion, Chief Secretary Raj Kumar said, “Gujarat has been a pioneer in renewable energy and its integration in other sectors. We have technically implemented a number of such renewable energy power projects. Gujarat aims at being known as a solar-sustained state with maximum power generation through renewable energy sources. Within a span of the next two-three years, we aim to cover all our electricity requirement of urban areas through such renewable energy sources.”

Sustainable development is not just an aspiration, but also a responsibility, the Chief Secretary said.

He added Gujarat has adopted a comprehensive approach while including sustainability, green energy, and conservation of natural resources in its town planning.
