WISE assisted Baker & Mckenzie with this project which was supported by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and the Australian and US governments. The main purpose of the project was to prepare a comprehensive report on the legal, policy and regulatory framework for supporting renewable energy in India. Back in 2007, the report advocated a national renewable energy law, tradable renewable energy certificate mechanism, RE resource assessment and forecasting implementation, in addition to specific policy and regulatory instruments and administrative mechanisms to support renewables.
The report advocated discussion and adoption of the RE law draft prepared independently by WISE. Many of the recommendations in the project found their way into new policy measures over the next decade, thus mainstreaming renewables in India.
